    can it prevent diabetes or cure it (can you even cure diabetes, or is it something you'll have forever) ????
    I'm not actually interested on going on the diet… and i dont have diabetes.
    I'm doing a case study on the diet and heard it helped diabetes. Obviously not!
    Oh and Dr.Atkins died from slipping on ice and getting a brain heamorrage. (spl?)

    The Aktins diet isn't good for anyone! You need carbs for energy, amongst all the other weird side effects you get (you may be thin, while you remain on the plan, but your breath and body stink!).

    It depends on the type of diabetes. You can easily control type 2 diabetes with diet. Keeping your blood sugar level by eating regularly, mixing protein with complex carbs and not eating excess sugar will keep it at bay. Type 1 you will always have to avoid sugar and inject insulin to control.

    You can't cure diabetes - you control it either through diet and or pills or insulin.
    NO faddy diet is "good", only eating sensibly, in the right amounts and with the right frequency for YOUR metabolism is good!

    Certainly if you already have Type 1 (insulin-dependent) diabetes, you need to balance out your insulin injections with a mixture of starchy and sugary carbohydrates or you will get low blood sugar which can be very dangerous! No-one knows what causes Type 1 diabetes, but it is certainly not linked to eating too much sugar. Could be a virus, some think.

    If you do not have diabetes, I should not imagine the Atkins diet would not really help to keep it at bay…..rather just eat a sensible balanced diet with not too much fat and sugar, and plenty of fruit and veg….I don't know if there is any proof that eating too much sugar causes diabetes, but certainly people who are overweight in mid-later life are more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes than those who are not. In fact, even some young people and children who are obese, are starting to get Type 2 diabetes.

    defentley not !! high fat (which should be avoided at all costs, if your diabetic or not) and low carbs (which us diabetics rely on for energy !)

    ive found that the g.i. diet works well, it helps keep sugar levels normal, keeps you feeling fuller for longer and is accoumponied by low fat.

    no cure for diabetes but you can try and prevent the major problems that can occur with diabetes–follow the diabetic diet and keep sugar regulated. Atkins? well, you need carbs..no Follow a Diabetic Diet given to you be a doctor/nutrionist. dont do weird diets!

    The Atkins Diet is the worst of all diets for anyone so stay well clear. Atkins himself is dead and died at a relatively early age due to ill health so his ideas cant have been that great. Id seek advise from a dietcian before dieting.

    I am not a doctor, so take this or leave it. But with type 2 adult onset DM YES YES YES YES YES YES YES do atkins. Call it whatever you want but do it. Eat as much as you want, but only eat things that will not raise your blood sugar.

    My glucose always ran 370+ and I was on all sorts of meds with a doctor wanting to put me on insulin. ( I refused) Atkins is wonderful. Absolutely wonderful for DM. A highfat diet with little or no sugar cured the disease in my life. My glucose now runs like 65-75 almost all the time.

    Once your learn how your body digests food and stores fat you will be able to control your blood sugar by a ketogenic diet unless you have the DM that is caused by an auto immune disease. IT DOES WORK! As God is my witness it really does work.

    I eat mostly highfat foods like olives, eggs, butter, cream, pork with fat, beef with fat, smoked salmon, macademia nuts, creme cheese, avocados etc. I love boiled eggs with butter. I love cream. It really is my favorite food. I whip it and put splenda in it and either freeze it or eat it like whipped cream. You can mix it with cream cheese and make a crustless cheese cake. Eggs are one of my favorite foods make into omelots with salsa. You can also eat any veggies that are not root veggies, some fruits like avocados, melons, and berries. I don't eat grains except a few flax seeds on scrambled eggs.

    I know some people make noise about Atkins and cholesterol, but it is simply not true from my experience or my husbands. My triglycerides were 44 last time they were checked. My total cholesterol was around 178. Atkins solved almost every health problem I had except a congenital problem with a heart node. But, I can live with that. I never had to count calories and ate all I wanted to eat. I lost weight so fast on that plan, yet probably ate 2500+ calories a day. I love it.

    Look up and research a ketogenic diet. It does work. And yes atkins did die in a fall. He did have viral cardiomyopathy from a virus he caught on a mission trip, but he died from a fall. And his food choices had nothing to do with the heart issue.

    I just know that I know that I know from my own personal experience that a ketogenic diet will solve the adult onset form of DM. I never bought the Atkins "Treats" or shakes or anything else. I just ate meat and fat and low sugar veggies and very few berries. It works.

    I just wanted to clarify that when I say cream I mean heavy whipping cream. I buy it in quart containers from the store or by the gallon from my local farmer. I go through about 3-4 quarts a week for whipped cream products, cocoa, lattes etc. Don't use the coolwhip stuff. Even the sugar free coolwhip is simply pure sugar. You want the highfat heavy cream so your body will not convert it to sugar or raise your blood sugar. Fat is only converted to sugar in your blood stream at about 10%, so if you eat mostly all fat, your blood sugar plunges. Protein is converted at around 40%, but carbs are converted at 100%. That is why you avoid them.

    I heard Dr. Atkins say once that if you always keep your blood sugar below 100 it is physically impossible for your body to store fat. That means after you eat if your blood sugar doesn't surge you will not gain weight. So if you eat all fat, it can't surge. I just know it really worked for me. I lost 150lbs in less than 6 months and that was many years ago. I have kept it off with atkins.

    Definately not. The Atkins diet can induce whats called ketosis, a lack of glucose from lack of carbohydrates–NOT GOOD. As for a cure? There are many ways of effectively curing diabetes, generally type 2 is very curable. It depends on whether there is hardening of the exterior tissue FYI…..

    no their is no cure for diabetes and their are way you can control it and that wold depend on what kind of diabetes you have type two or one type two the kind you have to use insolent for and type on is the one you have to control by balancing the kind of sugar you eat every time you eat because diabetes is caused by the lack of glucose which is sugar in your body and which means that your body dose not produce enough sugar to support it's self so you would have to see what kind of diabetes you have.

    Absolutely and catagorically NO. The Atkins diet would probably kill a diabetic. Diabetics need to eat complex carbohydrates - rice, pasta, bread, potatoes etc. to balance out the need to increase blood glucose levels if you are on insulin or medication. The atkins diet is reliant solely on protein, which as we know the body uses a lot of energy to even attempt digestion. The diabetic would rapidly slip into hyperglycaemia or on the other end of the scale hypocgylcaemia, ketoacidosis and eventually death.

    No it is not a cure or a prevention!
    Diabetes has NO cure, it is merely controlled. Once you have it, you have it for life.
    Atkins is a terrible diet for diabetics (in my opinion its a terrible diet for everyone!) as it is high in cholesterol, low in fibre and essential nutrients. Diabetics need carbs and to cut them out would be very damaging and maybe even fatal.
