How old was your baby when they threw their first temper tantrum?
December 28th, 2008 by adminMy 7 month old threw a fit for the first time yesterday. He was playing with something and I took it so I could get him some lunch. Oh my god! He went banana's! I actually had to stand there for a minute to make sure if what I was seeing was real! Yep. He was screaming and arching his back. It was the cutest temper tantrum I have ever seen! LOL!
How old was your child when they started throwing fits?

Oh, about 7 or 8 months. When she first started crawling and getting into things she wasn't aloud too. If I would take it from her or move her away from it she would throw a fit. Now at 17, almost 18 months, they are worse. They won't be cute for long

My baby is almost ten months. She doesn't throw fits but she does protest when I take something from her or I'm not moving fast enough for her! They sure know what they want, huh!

Oh goodness, I'll never forget my daughter's first temper tantrum. Ironically, she threw it on her first birthday. I don't remember all the details about it - she's 2 1/2 now, and throws PLENTY of them. But I remember very well that is was on her first birthday because I was 5 months pregnant with her sister & it was a very hectic day - trying to put up decorations & finish baking before the family arrived… and here she was, pounding her fists on the floor & screaming at the top of her lungs. Boy, it was a sight! That's kids for you though… they get to that age where they're caught in the middle. They don't really know how to say everything they want & they have a hard time expressing themselves any other way than these tantrums. I'm still waiting for my daughter to get over this phase - but the good news is, she's getting better! She's starting to talk more so she can communicate what she wants a lot easier & we're all a lot happier because of it!

Hi there…hehehe, I know it's shocking, right?! But sort of cute at the same time. My baby girl is also 7 months and she had her first temper tantrum at 2 months old! I couldn't believe it. She got up for a midnight feeding (more like 2 or 3 am) and had a bm diaper which I had to change first bef feeding her. She was crying and crying when I laid her down on the changing table, and I guess got really upset/mad when I didn't feed her bottle right then and there, and arched her back and THREW her lower body/legs UP IN THE AIR and slammed them down on the changing table (thank goodness it was nicely padded!) while screaming. Then she stuck her right foot out and started kicking me in the belly again and again and again.
No she wasn't sick, hurt, or starving–or otherwise…she has only done this a couple of times since then, and I always try to soothe her by showing her "gentle feet" and giving her sweet kisses or touches when I have to change her in the middle of the night.
I wonder if any body has any earlier than that? I am so curious. Good question!

My daughter was born early, and the first time I got to see her was a few hours after she was born. But the doctor insisted I get more medicine right after I had her, because I was having a couple complications. Well so that really threw me…I was completely out of it! So the next time I saw her, the NICU nurse told me she was the only baby she'd seen that could throw a fit and was not even 12 hours old!
She has little fits now and shes almost 5 months old!

Im trying to remember when my son threw his first fit but i can't! He's 14 months old today and he throws many every single day now so it's hard to remember. I want to say around 10 months old but then again it's hard to believe he started that late but is so good at them Lol When he's on the floor and throws one he knows not to throw his head back or on the tile floor now. But in the stroller or high chair the throwing the head back thing is an always action.

Same thing happened to us! It is really cute, but try not to laugh or smile. Turn away if you have to, and don't speak to him about it - He'll think it's a way to get attention, and cute can turn to ugly so fast (months, not years.) Our son is now 15 months and luckily, has abandoned the tantrums when he saw they weren't being paid attention to. Even discouragement is an encouragement. As cute as it is, don't stand and watch, or smile, just walk away and smile secretly later!

My baby started protesting (ie, crying hysterically) when I took things away from her around 7 months as well. It was a phase that went away. When it happened, I just replaced whatever I took away with something else, and that usually stopped the crying. Regarding temper tantrums: she's 12 months and hasn't had a serious temper tantrum yet. I'm sure they will be happening soon though….funfun!
