What is the definition of an 'adult temper tantrum'?
October 27th, 2008 by adminI define it as 'when an adult gets angry or upset when they do not get their own way'. Is this accurate?
Example:
-a mother of an adult child gets defensive and lays guilt trips when the daughter tells her to "I am the parent now, please don't expect it your way, I am not a clone of you". The grandmother gets upset and lays guilt trips to control the situation. That is an adult guilt trip?
-two siblings, both adults. The one sibling is bossy and belittling, when told to back off, the overbearing sibling gets angry and is all 'what is YOUR problem'. Is that an adult temper tantrum?
-someone offers a free car to a single mother in DIRE need. The single mother doesn't seem interested and so the offer is withdrawn. Upon having the offer withdrawn, there are guilt trips made along with anger and defensivness.
All examples have happened to me recently. People trying to make it my fault that THEY didn't treat me right. Are these 'adult temper tantrums'?
Hmmm. I think it has a lot to do with the current world condition, as promoted by the ruling class. It's so vogue to deny responsibility for your own short comings and reflect them back on the people you lost an opportunity with because you're an idiot.
Our leaders teach us that anything you do isn't your fault. You're a victim of some sort of discrimination. You need to sue someone and then all the attention will be deflected from the real guilty party….YOU. lol.
A childish, if not ignorant perspective? Sure. What kind of tantrum do you expect from these jokers?

Two points:
First, make SURE that your definition of "being treated right" is accurate and not just about your personal needs/wants/insecure desires getting met.
Second, if you have checked #1 and you are truly being objective about being treated right, then someone who tries "to make it [your] fault that THEY didn't treat [you] right is not having an "adult temper tantrum" (I am a therapist and never heard the term). They are being childish and insecure and immature.
I would call that a tantrum, but it's honestly no different than a 4 year old having a tantrum, in that the source is an insecure and ego-centric heart.
In the examples you give, if all your information is correct as it stands, then you were treated badly in all three instances. But I hesitate to give answers based on your information because one never knows the WHOLE story. Good luck to you, hon.
