How do you control your temper when driving? How do you keep calm?
January 15th, 2009 by adminNot just driving but how do you keep calm when driving a fast car or sports car, instead of just flooring it?
My friend crashed his BMW when he was 19 and since that day he seems different, he is not interested in cars, he will drive any car and only drive if he has to.
How do you just drive normal and not floor it?
I watched the ad, but you do things in the heat of the moment. I know as you get older you are more aware. But I don't want to bump into a lamppost like all these other chav's.
At first I thought your question was about road rage and not getting pissed by all the stupid people. I visualize a laser that, when pointed at the traffic offending idiot, zaps them back to their home location where they have to start all over again (like in the board game, Sorry). Since I can't ram them with my car and scream like I want to, this visualization works for me.
But reading your full question, I realized you are talking more about aggressive driving. I used to be more of a lead foot and not think so much about it until I hydroplaned and landed vertically in a ditch. As I spun around 3 or so times, I tried everything I could. But the brakes didn't respond, jerking the wheel didn't matter, and I had no control (which is what happens when you hydroplane). This can happen anytime the ground is wet. All I could do was brace my head as I flew off the road, just before a bridge, and pray that I wouldn't land on the concrete below. I survived my accident because I landed in mud, but I've had friends who didn't.
10 years later I still get terrified driving in the rain. It's because at that moment, and the same is true for your friend, you realize just how fragile you and your car are on the highway. Teenagers get a license and think they have control since they passed drivers ed, but the first time most of us are in an accident, we realize just how little control we had in the first place. It's a humbling experience and unfortunately, it's sometimes part of growing up. When you face death or have an injury after something like that, your whole outlook changes and the thrill of racing through the streets just isn't there anymore.

limit the amount of petrol you use, then youll know that if you floor it, you wont make it home. Or try downgrading your car for a smaller engined one maybe. try using other transport sometimes

You grow up and learn that cars are deadly. Instead of saying "flooring it" say "dramatically increasing the likelihood of killing not just myself but also other innocent road users"

becuz its not worth tickets & accidents. theres a time and place. people who drive stupid and dangerous around other people probly dont realize how dangerous they r being to the public and also how stupid they are makig themselves look to every1 else. if you hurt somebody you'll never forgive yourself. and the law might not either.

if you have a fast car with loads of power you dont need to race around.nice feeling driving around as a sensible driver knowing you have the power to get you out of trouble if needed, slow and steady does it

well personally, i just think there are always going to be idiots on the road, getting annoyed isn't going to change that or make them stop doing it. Also, getting annoyed spoils your day so why bother. It makes you more likely to have an accident when you allow anger to take hold and give you a rush or adrenaline so just learn to control it and you'll enjoy driving and life much more

I carry an automatic nerf gun with me at all times while driving. It keeps me from getting angry and its a good way to vent(for me).
To avoid flooring it, I dont fill up my gas tank all the way unless i NEED to. That way, I usually have only enough gas to do thigns I need to do, and I try to conserve gas as much as I can (it sucks to run out in the middle of nowhere)

everything in moderation.
drive like your Moms in the car.
then when the weather is good and no traffic around, floor it but just for a short time.
